SWIM TEAM PLACES SECOND (Nov. 21st)
The JCHS Swim team competed in their first official tri-meet of the season; JCHS placed 2nd.
Congratulations to the following swimmers who made state qualifying times: Aaron Durrence, Sydney Schroeder, Robert Doles, Jenny Di, Henry Parker, Jamie Suckow, Stephen Robertson, Daniel Funke and Leah Damon. First place finishes in individual events were made by Robert Doles in the 200IM and the 100 free, by Jamie Suckow in the 50 free, and by Sydney Schroeder and Daniel Funke in the 100 back. The men's 200 freestyle relay team of Robert Doles, Jake Kaloper, Stephen Robertson and Aaron Durrence took first place as did the girl's 200 freestyle relay team of Alex Mele, Jamie Suckow, Sydney Williams and Leah Damon.
SWIM MEET RESULTS - December 12th JCHS, MILTON, RIVERWOOD
In a tough tri-school swim meet against Milton and Riverwood the girls placed second and the boys third.
Individual first place finishes were taken by Daniel Funke in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Stephen Robertson in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle, CiCi Zhang in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Sydney Williams in the 100 backstroke. The girls 200 medley relay team of Sydney Williams, Alex Mele, CiCi Zhang and Jamie Suckow placed first.
State cuts were made by Daniel Funke in the 500 freestyle and by Stephen Robertson in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle.
Additional great swims were made by Trevor Vannucci and Eliza Clary in the 500 freestyle, Taylor Dukes in 100 freestyle and by Phillip Beauchamp in the 100 butterfly.
TEAM TAKES FIRST PLACE AT DECEMBER 19TH UGA MEET
13 TEAMS COMPETED
The JCHS Swim/Dive team took first place in a High School Invitational Meet in which 13 High Schools competed on Saturday, December 19th at UGA. Individual first place finishes were achieved by Stephen Robertson (200 free), Sydney Williams (200 free), Robert Doles (50 free), Jenny Di (500 free), and Leah Damon (100 breast).
The team took first place and achieved state qualifying times in the following relays: Boys 200 Medley Relay (Daniel Funke, Robert Doles, Henry Parker, Stephen Robertson), and Boys 400 Freestyle Relay (Robert Doles, Daniel Funke, Eugene Kim, Stephen Robertson),and Girls 400 Freestyle Relay (CiCi Zhang, Leah Damon, Jenny Di, Jamie Suckow). State qualifying times were also obtained by the Girls 200 Medley Relay (Sydney Schroeder, Jenny Di, CiCi Zhang, Leah Damon), and Girls 200 Free Relay (Sydney Schroeder, Alex Mele, Sydney Williams, Jamie Suckow).
Individual state qualifying times were obtained by: Stephen Robertson, Sydney Schroeder, Robert Doles, Leah Damon, and Jenny Di. Notable swims were also made by Tavis Vannucci in the 100 breast, Lauren Weissman in the 100 back, Justin Hale in the 50 free, Ben Holm in the 100 Free, and Taylor Dukes in the 500 free. Outstanding swims by the entire team contributed to the team's overall first place finish!
DUAL MEET AGAINST WEST FORSYTH - JANUARY 2nd
The Johns Creek girls and boys won their dual meet against West Forsyth High School on January 2nd.
State cuts were made and first place finishes were accomplished by both boys and girls in the 200 Medley, 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays. These teams consisted of Robert Doles, Aaron Durrence, Daniel Funke, Eugene Kim, Henry Parker, Stephen Robertson and Kevin Sun for the boys and Leah Damon, Jenny Di, Alex Mele, Sydney Schroeder, Jamie Suckow and CiCi Zhang.
Individual state cuts were made by Robert Doles in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and by Sydney Schroeder in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
The following swimmers had awesome first place finishes: Leah Damon, Jenny Di, Robert Doles, Aaron Durrence, Daniel Funke, Henry Parker, Stephen Robertson, Sydney Schroeder, Jamie Suckow and Jamie Suh.
Other notable swims with significant time drops were made by: Phillip Beauchamp in the 200IM and 100 freestyle, Lauren Obermeyer in the 100 butterfly, Max Howard in the 200 freestyle, Will Brooks in the 100 freestyle and Chris Shin in the 100 breaststroke.
TEAM COMPETES IN TWO MEETS (NORTH FULTON CHAMPIONSHIP AND ANNUAL JV INVITE)
The JCHS Swim Team competed in the North Fulton swimming championships on Friday, January 22nd. The boys team took home a 2nd place trophy and the girls team finished 5th. Overall the team finished in 5th place. Individual first place finishes were achieved by Robert Doles (50 free & 100 free) and Sydney Schroeder (100 back). Top 5 finishes were also achieved by Stephen Robertson (200 free & 500 free), Sydney Schroder (200IM), Henry Parker (100 Fly) , Cici Zhang (100 Fly) and Daniel Funke (100 back). Notable swims were also achieved by Lauren Weissman (100 free), Eliza Clary (500 free), Kevin Sun (100 free, 100 breast), Jamie Suh (100 free, 100 back) and the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay (Sydney Schroeder, Leah Damon, Jenny Di, Jamie Suckow) with a third place finish and the Boys 200 yard free relay (Robert Doles, Henry Parker, Aaron Durrence & Stephen Robertson) with a third place finish.
The Johns Creek Swim Team competed against Alpharetta, Milton, Northview, and Riverwood in the annual JV Invite on Saturday. Both mens and womens teams ended the meet taking victories in the 400 free relay. Swimmers included Eugene Kim, Kevin Sun, Max Howard, and Phillip Beauchamp; Alex Mele, Sydney Williams, Jamie Suh, and CiCi Zhang, respectively. Congratulations goes to Jamie Suh for a new state qualifying time in the 100 backstroke. The Gladiators will conclude their regular season on Saturday, January 30 at Greater Atlanta Christian School vs GAC and St Pius X.
LAST REGULAR SEASON SWIM MEET More Accomplishments
The JCHS Swim Team wrapped up its regular season at the Karen Blackman Invitational at Greater Atlanta Christian School on Saturday, January 30th. First place individual finishes were achieved by Aaron Durrence and Robert Doles. Robert Doles broke the 50 freestyle pool record with a time of 21.80. A new state qualifying time was achieved by CiCi Zhang in the 100 backstroke, Aaron Durrence in the 100 freestyle, and Jenny Di in the 100 breastroke.
Notable time drops were achieved by Ryan Moss (100 and 200 free), Lauren Obermeyer (200 IM), Shelby Slauer (100 free), Olivia Latagliata (100 free) and Leah Damon (500 free)
The team did a great job and showed team spirit in a great way to wrap up the season. JCHS will be competing in the HS State Swimming Championships on Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th at Westminster.
SWIM TEAM HEADS TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The JCHS Swim Team will be competing in the State Swimming Championships against schools in the 1A - 4A classification. Congratulations to the following swimmers who have qualified for the JCHS State Swim Team in the following events:
Boys Team Qualifiers:Philip Beauchamp - relays; Robert Doles - 200 IM, 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and relays; Aaron Durrence - 100, 200 and 500 freestyle and relays; Daniel Funke - 100 backstroke, 500 freestyle and relays; Jake Kaloper - relays; Eugene Kim - relays; Stephen Robertson - 200 IM, 100, 200 and 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly and relays; Henry Parker - 100 butterfly and relays; Kevin Sun - alternate.
Girls Team Qualifiers: Leah Damon - 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and relays' Jenny Di - 200 IM, 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and relays; Alex Mele - relays' Sydney Schroeder - 200 IM, 200 and 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and relays; Jamie Suckow - 100 freestyle and relays; Jamie Suh - 100 backstroke; Sydney Williams - alternate; CiCi Zhang - 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and relays.
As the swimmers are limited to swimming only two individual events the coach selects from those qualified events.
JCHS SWIM TEAM STATE RESULTS (2009 - 2010 SEASON) Boys Team 6th; Girls Team 10th
91 High Schools competed in the 1A - 4A State Swimming Championships. Our girls finished 7th in the medley relay (Sydney Schroeder, Leah Damon, Jenny Di, Alex Mele), 13th in the 200 free relay (Alex Mele, Jamie Suckow, Cici Zhang, Leah Damon), and 9th in the 400 free relay (Jenny Di, Sydney Schroeder, Cici Zhang, Leah Damon). Sydney Schroeder finished 5th in the backstroke and 14th in the 200 IM. Leah Damon finished 11th in the breaststroke. Our boys team finished 6th in both the 200 medley relay (Aaron Durrence, Robert Doles, Henry Parker, Stephen Robertson) and 400 free relay (Robert Doles, Stephen Robertson, Henry Parker, Aaron Durrence). Robert Doles received a medal for a 3rd place finish in the 50 free, and finished 6th in the 100 freestyle. Henry Parker finished 9th in the 100 fly, and Stephen Robertson finished 15th in the 500 free. The boys team gutted out a 6th place finish to top all other public schools in the division.
